Exhibition Catalogue
Elisabetta Zangrandi: Storia highlights the artist's ongoing dialogue with art history, including works such as Velázquez's 1656 work Las Meninas and Manet's 1882 painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergère, as well as the historical genre of Madonna and Child paintings.
Zangrandi's recent exhibitions include group shows at Blum & Poe ("Pictures Girls Make": Portraitures) and Vito Schnabel Gallery (Brigid Berlin: The Heaviest), both curated by Alison M. Gingeras. We will also feature Zangrandi's work at the upcoming Outsider Art Fair.
"I love Manet. He has an air of freshness. It was painted during the lockdown, representing what was missing: the bar, the sauna with friends, a mother with her child — I remember never having seen a child in that period — and animals grazing."

"It is interesting to me that as you progress in this series, there is an ambiguity between the archetype of the Pietà image and the Madonna and Child scene. Jesus’ body in some of your paintings becomes child-like even if you depict him as an adult man."
