Janet Sobel (1893 - 1968)
Works by Janet Sobel

Our booth will feature a superb group of works on paper, board, and Masonite by self-taught artist Janet Sobel, including numerous works that have never been shown before.

Known for her brief and previously overlooked career in the 1940s, Janet Sobel has been increasingly recognized as a pioneering modern artist who skillfully merged Ukrainian folk art, Surrealism, and all-over abstraction.

Sobel's work has recently been highlighted in a solo exhibition at the Menil in Houston, as well as in group shows at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Whitechapel, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Sol LeWitt (1928 - 2007)
Works by Sol LeWitt

Our booth will feature exceptional Sol LeWitt gouaches from 1991 through 2001. We will also exhibit R Series and fold works from the 1970s, in which LeWitt used folding, ripping, and cutting as methods of drawing without drawing.

Widely considered one of the leading figures of both Minimalism and Conceptual art, LeWitt embraced a radical new aesthetic in the 1960s that eschewed the styles of abstraction that dominated the 1940s and 50s. Utilizing an instantly-recognizable visual vocabulary of line, geometry, repetition, and primary colors, LeWitt’s career spanned painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and installation, among other media.
