Joseph Kosuth: Short Days, Long Nights

For the next month, we will be exhibiting Joseph Kosuth's neon sculpture What Does This Mean in Studio 1905. Our daily time lapse videos of the sculpture at sunset and sunrise will explore how the yellow glow fills the cavernous studio space and interacts with the changing natural light near the winter solstice.

A pioneer of conceptual art, Kosuth was among the first artists to explore appropriation, language-based works, and installations. He wrote some of the earliest theoretical texts about conceptual art, including his seminal essay "Art After Philsophy," published in 1969. What does this mean? succinctly asks the question that Kosuth explored for his entire career.
