Some Women and a Triangle
Closing Reception
July 6 - September 14, 2019
"This past five to ten years is the most change-making, radical rethinking of art history and by extension museum curation in half century... Things that were assumed over the last forty, twenty, ten, or even five years have exploded... Suddenly, [neglecting women artists] has become not even a question — something that we can ever go back to."
- Ann Temkin, Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture, Museum of Modern Art
In Concerning the Spiritual in Art, Kandinsky describes the human spirit as a triangle, with the visionary artist at the top and the public below. Over time, the triangle moves "slowly, almost invisibly upwards and forwards," so what is misunderstood yesterday is understood today.
Our exhibition highlights a selection of women artists and continues to blur the boundaries between trained and untrained artists, a distinction we believe will become inconsequential in the future.
